The question above poses many more questions as there is not just one Aeron chair there are many configurations.
In this blog we will look at what size Aeron to purchase, what options to choose and some guidance on what the current colour choices are. We will try and make it as simple as possible without too much jargon.
Originally designed nearly 30 years ago by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick this pioneering office chair continues to evolve and prove itself as not just a recognised chair but a highly recognised product in its own right. There has now been over 8 million Aeron chairs sold worldwide so maybe its not hype?
The Aeron now includes the addition of ocean-bound plastics with the help of NextWave Plastics to the body of the chair. The Herman Miller Aeron is now not only great for your body and wellbeing it is also good for the environment. Aeron’s embodied carbon footprint has reduced by an estimated 12%
The most popular size that we sell is the B Medium chair. This fits the majority of the population. Here is a guide below so that you can make that choice:
If you are 142cm to 163cm tall then the Size A is for you.
If you are 158cm to 183cm tall then go for the Size B
If you are 178cm to 200cm tall then go for the C.
It is not only the depth of the seat to suit your height, the width of the chair also changes so maybe consider if you are broader to maybe go up a size if you are around a similar height.
I would always go for the fully specified model. This will give you the most adjustments and ensure that you can sit as best you can.
The main chair that customers purchase is the Aeron Graphite B which includes the following:
Fully adjustable arms allow you to set the height to suit your arm length, the arm pads slide backwards and forwards incase you need to get closer to your desk, they will also pivot so that you can angle then inwards slightly for more comfortable keyboard work. The arm pads can be soft and hardwearing vinyl or in luxurious leather the choice is yours.
The Harmonic tilt mechanism should be unlocked so that you can keep moving all day and not sit in a static position. You can set this recline tension to suite your body weight and also limit how far back the Aeron chair will recline. It also has a switchable forward tilt so that you can sit correctly when carrying out keyboard work and the rear of the Aeron chair will still be in contact with your back. All good so far?
In addition to the very supportive backrest the Aeron also has a very neat type of adjustable support called PostureFit. This is two adjustable pads that really stop your pelvis rotating while you still which will stop you slouching. All of the above will enable you to sit on the chair for extended periods of time (don’t forget to stand up and walk around occasionally too!)
The standard Aeron finish is the Graphite which is our most popular Aeron but do they do any more interesting colours? Yes they do!
There is a Mineral finish which looks a bit less heavy and ideally suited to a home office environment, a Carbon finish which sits between the Graphite and the newer Onyx Black version.
New on the block are the Jasper green and Nightfall Blue Aeron’s. These are in my opinion simply stunning! (I sit on a Nightfall chair in the office) and are designed around biophilic design principles.
All of the above colours are available with a polished metal frame and base for that super executive look.
So should you consider buying a Herman Miller Aeron chair, Absolutely! From my personal experience I love using the Aeron. It is not only a very high quality product with a 12 Year Guarantee it also enables you to sit more naturally and lower your risk of fatigue and trips to the osteopath.
Our recommendation is to go for the fully specified model and then make it yours by choosing the colour that suits your environment and you personality.
