Mirra 2 Design Story
Less than 10 people complete the design team at Berlin’s Studio 7.5, who named themselves after a 7.5 tonne truck. Though they ditched the notion of renting that vehicle for use as a mobile showroom, the name stuck and their passion for moving freely between ideas and roles, followed them too. This was a key factor for founders Burkhard Schmitz and Carola Zwick, valuing a flat team structure, free from the boundaries of politics and hierarchy.

About Herman Miller Mirra 2 Chairs
The Mirra was designed in collaboration between Herman Miller and Studio 7.5 in Berlin, Germany. In the time since the Mirra was introduced it has been refined and updated not just once but twice, making the current Mirra 2 the third iteration of the design. There are 2 key principles in the design of the Mirra 2 chair:
- Human beings are in constant motion at work – meaning that the ideal office chair is designed to not only move with you, but offer dynamic support which adapts to a wide range of motions and postures.
- Sustainability – According to Herman Miller, the Mirra 2 was the “first office chair developed from the ground up with environmental responsibility in mind“
Mirra 2 Features
- Butterfly Back – Similar to the translucent appearance of a butterfly’s wings, the Latitude textile covers the suspension back, giving it a see through effect.
- TriFlex Back – The same perforated polymer backrest as the Butterfly (minus the fabric cover), it flexes with your posture and contours to your body.
- Loop Spine – This allows the chair to bend with your body as you move. This ‘tortional flex’ enhances the Mirra 2’s responsiveness.
- Harmonic 2 Tilt – Designed around the body’s natural pivot points, this impressive piece of tech keeps you balanced without placing stress on any part of the body.
- AireWeave – This suspension seat conforms to your shape and dissipates heat.
