The Herman Miller Lino Chair was created to deliver high-performance ergonomic seating at an exceptional value. Designed by award-winning designers Sam Hecht and Kim Colin, Lino combines refined simplicity with the ergonomic expertise of Herman Miller.
Blending intuitive comfort, purposeful engineering, and a clean visual aesthetic, Lino was designed to support a broad range of users and modern working environments without unnecessary complexity.
When Sam Hecht and Kim Colin were tasked with designing the Lino chair, the goal was clear: create a high-performance ergonomic work chair that remained accessible without compromising comfort, quality, or support.
Rather than viewing constraints as limitations, the designers used them as creative direction. By focusing on essential ergonomic principles and eliminating unnecessary complexity, they developed a chair that delivers the core performance expected from a Herman Miller task chair in a more streamlined form.
This approach allowed Lino to balance ergonomic functionality with simplicity, creating a chair suited to a wide range of workplaces and users.
Lino brings together the minimalist design philosophy of Hecht and Colin with the ergonomic research and engineering expertise of Herman Miller.
Central to the chair’s performance is Herman Miller’s patented PostureFit support system, which helps maintain the spine’s natural alignment by supporting the sacral and lumbar regions. Combined with the chair’s breathable suspension back and intuitive adjustments, Lino is designed to encourage healthy posture and natural movement throughout the day.
Every element of the chair was carefully considered to provide dependable comfort while maintaining a visually lightweight appearance.
In 2019, the Herman Miller Lino Chair, designed by Sam Hecht and Kim Colin, received an iF Design Award in the Product Design category.
The award recognised the chair’s successful combination of ergonomic performance, accessibility, and refined industrial design.
This philosophy from Sam Hecht and Kim Colin reflects the thinking behind the Lino chair, creating products that quietly support daily life through intelligent, purposeful design.
By combining ergonomic research, refined engineering, and simplicity, the Lino chair continues Herman Miller’s tradition of creating seating designed around the real needs of people at work.
