“In a recent survey on stress, it has been found that a shocking number of 59% of workers have reported stress in the workplace. Only a small 9% of people in the workplace said that they didn’t experience any stress with high earning workers most likely to experience stress. These figures show that stress is still a huge issue in the workplace and one that we are not properly tackling. There is a wide range of reasons that people experience stress which can include both internal and external factors in the workplace. 1. Acknowledge Stress
One of the first steps to beating stress in the office is to actually acknowledge that you are stressed out. This might seem like a simple step to take but many people push stress to the back of their mind for far too long. Actually accepting that you are stressed and need to do something about it is the first thing you should do to start making a change. It can then help to find the root of your problem and work out why you are feeling so stressed at work. This could be because your workload is too much or you are going through a difficult time in your personal life, but addressing this can help.
2. Seek Help
The second step that you should make when you are experiencing stress in the workplace is to seek help from your employers. Most employers will be understanding and want to create the best conditions for you to be happy in your role if you present them with the problem. Once you have acknowledged you are stressed and addressed the cause, your boss should be able to provide a solution. This might involve distributing the workload more evenly amongst employees or providing training to help you overcome barriers. Speaking about the problem with other colleagues can also help as they might have been in a similar situation before or currently.
3. Prioritise Your Workload
It can often be a common problem in workplaces around the country that there simply isn’t enough time to complete your workload. This is particularly true of senior positions as admin time is often not factored into processes which can end up setting you back. The next step that you should take is to prioritise your workload and create a plan of action for what is most urgent. You can often lose sight of what needs to be delivered when you have requests coming in from colleagues or clients so putting together a plan can help to relieve stress. 4. Take a Break
One of the biggest mistakes that people make when they are under pressure is to skip lunch or miss their breaks to try and get more work done. Although this might seem like a good option to help allow more time in your day, it can actually lead to you burning out a lot quicker. If you don’t take a break then you will often find you feel a lot more tired and drained quicker. You should also make sure that you are not checking emails once at home and you get a good nights sleep and enough rest.
5. Office Environment
Another important factor for relieving stress in the office is making sure that your environment is conducive for working well.
